Services for women
Survive provides a range of services to women who have experienced domestic abuse and who may need our support.
All these services are free, confidential and non-judgemental. Using one service does not mean you cannot use another. Please get in touch if you think you need our help, you are not alone.
Refuges
We have three refuges in South Glos, all in secret locations. We can support up to 16 women and their children at any time. One of our refuges is for single women. Each refuge has a Support Worker and we have Play Leaders and a Family Support Worker working across all three Safehouses.
We can offer you help with finding new housing, claiming benefits and learning about the area, including linking you and your children with local schools, facilities and services. Refuge life is communal. You will have your own bedroom but cooking, living and bathroom facilities are shared with the other women. Many women and families find this time an opportunity to meet others like them. Most women move on from refuge after 4-6 months.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and the girls, we will always remember you and all the good work you have done.
Outreach support
For women who don’t need refuge but want support to move away from their situation, Survive offers 1:1 support. Outreach support is always at a safe place and at a time that suits you. One of our two trained Outreach workers will support you, talk through your options and offer non-judgemental support and information. You could be in a relationship or it could be after a relationship or the situation has ended. From here you can be supported through any of our other services as well, including if your circumstances change, moving into refuge

Freedom programme
We run groups for women in South Glos who have previously experienced or are experiencing domestic violence and abuse. The groups provide support, information and an opportunity to meet with other women who have had similar experiences. The aim is to support you to make sense of your experiences and move on in whatever way you want to. There is a free crèche and the freedom programme is run in three locations in South Glos.
Very useful – I didn’t realise I had a problem until listening to others – just because violence has stopped doesn’t mean the control isn’t there.

Independent Domestic Violence Advisers
We have three full time IDVAs who provide you with support if you are experiencing violence or a difficult and dangerous time and may be considering using the criminal justice system. These specially trained women provide support, information and advocacy, attending court with you if you wish and advocating on your behalf with other agencies. Our aim is to make sure you are safe and well.
Without Survive, I’d probably be dead.
